top 10 punk songs of the 90S in my opinion
THE FOLLOWING ARE NOT THE BEST IN ORDER
1.
good riddance (time of your
life)
This song is featured on the band's fifth album, 'Nimrod'. This amazing song, in my opinion at least is written by the talented lead singer of Green Day, Billy Joe Armstrong. It was released on October 17th 1997 but was actually written before the band's release of their third album, 'Dookie' in 1994. The single sold over 2.6 million copies as a digital download in the United States because the physical single wasn't available yet at that time. In the United Kingdom, this song is certified gold and for sales of 400,000. The certification of this album is platinum. Amazing right?
2. Long
View
This song has an incredible bass my the talented bassist of the band, Mike Dirnt. This song is about intense boredom according to Wikipedia and I actually agree. This song is named after the city of Longview, Washington where they first performed in 1992. I have to mention again, incredible bass on this song!
3. Minority
"This song is about being an individual and how you have to drift through the darkness to find where you belong" Billy Joe Armstrong said in an interview. Meaningful lyrics, great song.
4. Welcome to paradise
This song was released on October 4th, 1994. Written by Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt and Tré Cool. Basically every member. According to Wikipedia, it is based on the band's experience moving out of their parents' houses and into an abandoned house in Oakland, California where the band members, along with a number of others, lived without paying rent.
5. AmeRICAN IDIOT
THIS SONG IS INCREDIBLE if you haven't heard it, you're missing out! This song was featured on a broadway/musical that they created.
I
6. WAKE ME UP WHEN SEPTEMBER ENDS
Beautiful song, Billy joe Armstrong revealed that this song was about his father who past away when he was 10 years old on September of 1982. Also, most americans had experienced 9/11 the terrorist attack. Lots have loss their loved ones in that month. Again I say, beautiful song.
7. 21 guns
Nominated for a Grammy for Best Rock Performance by a Duo/Group with Vocals and Best Rock Song in the year of 2010. It has also sold over 2,151,000 copies as of December 2011. Certifications are Gold and Platinum. Incredible!
8. BOULEVARD OF BROKEN DREAMS
Wikipedia says, The song speaks from the point of view of American Idiot 's main character, Jesus of Suburbia, and is a moderate midtempo song characterized by somber and bleak lyrics. This is in contrast to the previous track on the album, "Holiday", which illustrates Jesus of Suburbia's high of being in The City. MTV's Green Day Makes a Video described "Holiday" as a party, and "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" as the subsequent hangover." Great guitar in this.
9. oh love
The band played this song a "secret show" on October 8th 2011. Later, on June 25, 2012, the band announced that they would be releasing "Oh Love" as the first single from "¡Uno!".
10. BASKET CASE
Of course, of course, of course! Basket Case. It's so hard to find a word to describe this song, it's just so... AMAZING. It's great, it's incredible, it's good it's WOW. I love it. It's the seventh song from their third album, "Dookie". This song was also at the top of Modern Rock Tracks chart for five incredible weeks. Nice. Also, check out their awesome music video here:
