THE LEGALIZING OF GAY MARRIAGE

If I had the power to cause major change in the world, I would legalize gay marriage globally. Right now, 19 countries around the world have fully legalized gay marriage. In some places such as the United States of America and Mexico, gay marriage is legal in some juridictions.
For the life of me, i cannot figure out why gay marriage hasn’t been legalized everywhere yet. It’s just marriage. Why is it okay for a man and a woman to get married, but not for two women and two men to do the same thing?
In many places, gay marriage is a subject that’s treated as if it’s a nuclear bomb that’s about to go off at any second. This isn’t just happening in third world countries. Even the United States, which is seen as the most powerful country in the world at the moment, has not fully legalized gay marriage. They are still working on getting it legalized in a number of states.
Gay marriage is said to be against religion. Religion should be a sanctuary in which people can be themselves without having to worry about being judged or discriminated against. Instead, people who are openly gay and religious are ridiculed and labeled outcasts. Also, some say that homosexuality isn’t “normal” or “it’s just a phase”. These two arguments are about as strong as a piece of wet paper. How is something not normal when thousands and thousands of people are openly gay? And I’m quite sure, it’s  not just a phase to those people.
I don’t think gay marriage is that big of a deal. We should be focusing on the countless problems plaguing our world such as school shootings, poverty and human rights issues. Instead, we’re fighting about who is allowed to marry who.
