BODY IMAGE

Humans have always had many expectations, dos and don’ts. For so long, it has been body image. Even in Ancient Egypt, there were certain expectations of what a woman’s body should look like. I would like to say that we have progressed into becoming a world in which body type doesn’t matter, but that would be untrue. However, it seems that body image has become an even bigger issue as time goes on. Even in the 21st century, we are so consumed by what people think of our appearances. What we wear, how we look. These things are so important to us.
This is plain stupid. I despise the fact that people are judged or seen as not being good enough just because of how they look. Does one’s personality and mind not count for anything anymore? I would think it would be better to be fat than say, selfish or rude. However, most people would disagree with me.
Why is it so important to look “socially acceptable”. It’s most important to be able to think for and to accept yourself than to have a thigh gap. Or at least that’s what I think. There are so many people in the world struggling with eating and mental disorders because society deems them not thin enough, too thin and so many other normal things that are seen as “flaws”.
We need to stop putting our images of the “perfect body” on a pedestal. It’s not doing anything for anyone. The perfect body is the body that you have. No change is or should be necessary.
