TOP 10 BOOKS

Below, in no particular order, are the top 10 best books that I have ever read. I’ve read a fair number of books and I’m probably forgetting way better ones to include into this list. These were just the books that first popped into my head. Onto the blog post!

10. Charlotte’s Web

I read this book when I was 9 and immediately wanted a pet pig. Charlotte’s Web is a classic that people of all ages should read. It’s about a runt of a pig called Wilbur who was saved from being killed by his owner, Fern. A few years later, Wilbur meets a spider called Charlotte and they hatch a plan to save Wilbur from being slaughtered. The heartwarming book is not only a wonderful read, but also one that points out the importance of friendship.

9. Gulliver’s Travels

This is another classic that I’ve read. It’s used mostly for kids, but it’s still a fun read for adults. Essentially, Gulliver goes on voyages and gets shipwrecked onto these magnificent places where no human has ever been before. From ruling tiny people to fleeing from giants, Gulliver’s Travels is as exciting as it is fun.

8. Looking for Alaska

John Green is one of the most mainstream authors at the moment. It’s not entirely unjustified as some of his books are actually quite good. Looking for Alaska is a different from any other book that I’ve ever read. When I finished it, I couldn’t really do anything because the ending and the book itself had blown my mind so much. It’s about a guy named Miles who goes to university and meets Alaska, Pudge and Takumi. The book is about their college adventures and is definitely one I would recommend to everyone who likes a good book.

7. Charlie & the Chocolate Factory

Charlie taught me something very important; appreciate chocolate. Aside from that, he taught me to empathize with others and appreciate my good fortune. I learnt that being rude, greedy and/or snobby wouldn’t get me far in life. In fact, I might just end up stuck in a chocolate-carrying tube, stretched like a rubber band or turn purple.

6. The Mortal Instruments

Thanks to this 6 book series, I fell behind on days and days of homework. It was worth it though. In a world of demons, shadowhunters and creatures of the night, there is also romance, love and humor. Clary’s innocence, Simon’s nerdiness and Jace’s bad boy attitude have come together to create one of my favorite book series.

5. Perks of Being a Wallflower

This book changed my entire perspective on a number of important issues including sexual assault and western culture. Charlie’s innocence and curiosity resulted in excellent moments of discovery and realization (also a lot of second hand awkwardness). This book is about a teenage boy discovering the world of sex, drugs friendship and self-reliability. For youngsters, it might open your eyes. For adults, you might be taken down memory lane. Parental guidance is advised for anyone 13 or below.

4. Handcuffs, Kisses & Awkward Situations

I found this book on the website Wattpad. I have read it about 14 times and I’m still not sick of it. It’s a light read for anyone looking for a bit of humor and romance. It’s your classic boy and girl hate each other, but then boy and girl like each other story. However, it comes with murder and destruction of property that will keep you wondering.

3. The Hunger Games

This exciting book carries powerful messages about our world and human nature. We are exposed to the harsh truth that the Hunger Games universe could possibly exist in our future. Amidst all of the conflict and violence, there is love, acceptance and perseverance. Although I’ll always believe that Katniss should have ended up with Gale, I have a soft spot for Peeta and Katniss’ love story.

2. Pride & Prejudice

I am not ashamed to admit that I’m a 14 year old who’s looking for a Mr. Bingley, and I will keep looking until I find him. Pride & Prejudice blew my mind when I first read it at the age of 10. Being quite cynical and pessimistic, I identify more with Mr. Darcy. However, I was able to appreciate the lightheartedness and sarcasm of Elizabeth. Through this book, I learned a little bit about what life was like in the past such as all of the lies and conflict that occurred. Pride and Prejudice is, and always will be a classic. I am quite certain that it could melt the heart of even The Grinch himself.

1. Harry Potter

I could write paragraphs and paragraphs about this iconic book series as I’ve read it about 13 times. Harry Potter does not need a description because simply saying; “Harry Potter” is enough. Despite all of the flaws of the book that have been pointed out to me (thanks, Mr. Towns), I am still a hardcore Potterhead. It’s the book series that I go to when I’m feeling lost or upset. If you’ve never read it before, we cannot be friends. I’m sorry.

Thanks for reading! :)
