Men have been (and sometimes still are) seen as the stronger and better sex. They are tough, unyielding and brave. All men are charming and witty. If you’re a man who isn’t these things, surely you are wrong about your gender. The idea that a man isn’t stronger and braver than a woman is ridiculous to even consider!
At least that’s what
people with a mind the size of a pea claim.
There
has always been this stereotype that males cannot and should not cry because it
is seen as a weakness. Only girls cry. And if you’re a male, surely you don’t
want to be seen as a girl! Oh, the horror!
On a more serious note, this
stereotype pisses me off to no end. Boys are allowed to cry. Crying is normal.
It’s healthy even! Tears are a physical way of letting your emotions flow
freely. To stop doing that NORMAL HUMAN THING because of the fear of being seen
as weak, is incredibly dumb. I find it extremely unfair that girls can cry
however boys cannot.
If a girl cries, it’s okay. She’s
just having a bad day and someone should comfort her. On the other hand if a
boy cries, all hell breaks loose. Suddenly he is no longer a male. He’s being
such a baby, such a wuss, such a girl.
I am here to tell you that that is
totally untrue. Crying is normal. Everyone cries (yes, even males). Therefore,
my simple solution is that people should get their heads out of the 15th
century and understand that to cry is not the same as getting a sex change. It
just means you’re human.
